Narrative:
Returned from a flight. Assigned default reserve rest period. Checked and was #1 reserve on 2 day list for nov/thu/03, with an available time of XA20. Went to hotel room with cell phone off not expecting to be available until morning. Woke at XX00 and called crew desk to let them know I'm at airport for short call if they need it and was told I had been listed as unavailable after several calls from crew desk went unanswered (XT00 and XW00). The crew desk was very polite and professional in giving me the details of their previous night's attempts to contact me. I feel it is a safety issue if the company can contact the pilot when he is on rest following an assignment just because his 'rest period' is later in the day. Having to answer the phone 24 hours a day on reserve is a safety issue. Once an identify is flown, reserve should have at least 10 hours duty free to recover and reset his body clock.
