Narrative:
During descent, approximately 15 mins prior to landing, flight attendant advised passenger code red. Passenger unconscious and unresponsive in aisle after he apparently passed out and hit his head. Declared emergency and requested paramedics from both ATC and company ramp. Flight attendant requested assistance from physician or emt, but no one on board responded. Conducted expedited approach to runway 17R. Prior to landing, flight attendant advised that passenger conscious and code red canceled. Paramedics met aircraft, but delay was encountered upon gate arrival waiting for agent to show up and position jetbridge. Passenger was examined and taken to a local hospital for observation. Suggest passenger services be contacted to improve response time. This is not the first time I have arrived at gate with medical emergency after giving accurate ETA only to find that the agent was not there to meet the aircraft in a timely manner.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MD80 FLT CREW NOTIFY COMPANY AND ATC ABOUT INBOUND PAX MEDICAL EMER ONLY TO ARR AT GATE AND PAX SVCS AGENT NOT BE ON SCENE.
Narrative: DURING DSCNT, APPROX 15 MINS PRIOR TO LNDG, FLT ATTENDANT ADVISED PAX CODE RED. PAX UNCONSCIOUS AND UNRESPONSIVE IN AISLE AFTER HE APPARENTLY PASSED OUT AND HIT HIS HEAD. DECLARED EMER AND REQUESTED PARAMEDICS FROM BOTH ATC AND COMPANY RAMP. FLT ATTENDANT REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM PHYSICIAN OR EMT, BUT NO ONE ON BOARD RESPONDED. CONDUCTED EXPEDITED APCH TO RWY 17R. PRIOR TO LNDG, FLT ATTENDANT ADVISED THAT PAX CONSCIOUS AND CODE RED CANCELED. PARAMEDICS MET ACFT, BUT DELAY WAS ENCOUNTERED UPON GATE ARR WAITING FOR AGENT TO SHOW UP AND POS JETBRIDGE. PAX WAS EXAMINED AND TAKEN TO A LCL HOSPITAL FOR OBSERVATION. SUGGEST PAX SVCS BE CONTACTED TO IMPROVE RESPONSE TIME. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE ARRIVED AT GATE WITH MEDICAL EMER AFTER GIVING ACCURATE ETA ONLY TO FIND THAT THE AGENT WAS NOT THERE TO MEET THE ACFT IN A TIMELY MANNER.
