Narrative:
I was recently hired by this company and was on my second flight with this training captain. I was training to eventually become PIC in the aircraft. We had an empty (deadhead) leg and I was the pilot flying. We were departure teb on the teb 5 departure. I wanted more time to review the SID, but I was told to taxi the aircraft and could not review the SID to the extent that I needed to. In my mind, I was supposed to maintain 1500 ft until given a turn to the west. In reality, I was supposed to maintain 1500 ft until a certain DME from teb. As we climbed rapidly, we received a turn to the west from ATC and I climbed through 1800 ft before the PIC corrected my error. ATC chastised us as well. Being new to the airplane, unfamiliar with the procedure, and new to the operation, I needed more time to prepare for the complicated procedure.
