Narrative:
This is a newly purchased airplane. I have 950 hours in the similar SR20, but the tcad is new to me. When cdw warned me of traffic, I told them I had the traffic 'on the metal detector.' they gave me a frequency change, while I looked for visual contact while maneuvering to avoid the conflict as displayed by the tcad, I failed to see the traffic until it was very close. Factors: lack of familiarity with new equipment, spending too much time looking at the screen instead of outside.

Title: A CIRRUS SR22 PLT HAS CONFLICT WITH C152 TFC BECAUSE HE IS GIVING TOO MUCH ATTN TO A TCAD SYS THAT HE IS UNFAMILIAR WITH.
Narrative: THIS IS A NEWLY PURCHASED AIRPLANE. I HAVE 950 HRS IN THE SIMILAR SR20, BUT THE TCAD IS NEW TO ME. WHEN CDW WARNED ME OF TFC, I TOLD THEM I HAD THE TFC 'ON THE METAL DETECTOR.' THEY GAVE ME A FREQ CHANGE, WHILE I LOOKED FOR VISUAL CONTACT WHILE MANEUVERING TO AVOID THE CONFLICT AS DISPLAYED BY THE TCAD, I FAILED TO SEE THE TFC UNTIL IT WAS VERY CLOSE. FACTORS: LACK OF FAMILIARITY WITH NEW EQUIP, SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME LOOKING AT THE SCREEN INSTEAD OF OUTSIDE.
