Narrative:
Captain called prior to departure stating the XXX (mustang) VOR was OTS, which affected our engine-out procedure. He received this information via XXX ATIS. Since there were no NOTAMS to reflect this information, and XXX does not have digital ATIS providing dispatch with text ATIS, we were unaware this problem existed. Several phone calls were made to find out alternate engine-out procedures, however, upon further investigation (call to XXX tower) we discovered only the TACAN portion of the VOR was OTS, thus not affecting our operations. Obviously, potential for a problem existed due to lack of NOTAM information. It appears that the mustang VOR falls out of the radius to be included in the XXX NOTAMS. Perhaps this could be changed to include fmg when applicable.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A DISPATCHER RECEIVES A CALL FROM THE CAPT OF A FLT THAT THERE IS A VOR INOP THAT IS NEEDED FOR ENG OUT PROC. THE INOP VOR IS NOT REFLECTED ON THE NOTAMS.
Narrative: CAPT CALLED PRIOR TO DEP STATING THE XXX (MUSTANG) VOR WAS OTS, WHICH AFFECTED OUR ENG-OUT PROC. HE RECEIVED THIS INFO VIA XXX ATIS. SINCE THERE WERE NO NOTAMS TO REFLECT THIS INFO, AND XXX DOES NOT HAVE DIGITAL ATIS PROVIDING DISPATCH WITH TEXT ATIS, WE WERE UNAWARE THIS PROB EXISTED. SEVERAL PHONE CALLS WERE MADE TO FIND OUT ALTERNATE ENG-OUT PROCS, HOWEVER, UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION (CALL TO XXX TWR) WE DISCOVERED ONLY THE TACAN PORTION OF THE VOR WAS OTS, THUS NOT AFFECTING OUR OPS. OBVIOUSLY, POTENTIAL FOR A PROB EXISTED DUE TO LACK OF NOTAM INFO. IT APPEARS THAT THE MUSTANG VOR FALLS OUT OF THE RADIUS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE XXX NOTAMS. PERHAPS THIS COULD BE CHANGED TO INCLUDE FMG WHEN APPLICABLE.
