Narrative:
Upon selecting reverse thrust after touchdown, the left engine shut down accompanied by EICAS message 'left engine shutdown.' landing rollout was completed. Left engine egt was observed to be rising, so left fuel control switch was placed in cutoff. Egt decreased and taxi to gate was accomplished on the right engine. Reflecting on this occurrence, I think I should have used the pom qrc (which requires the fuel cutoff switch to be put to cutoff) rather than relying on memory to do this. Also, I should have had ground personnel verify a clean engine shutdown prior to taxiing to the gate.

Title: B757 #1 ENG SHUTS ITSELF DOWN DURING SELECTION OF REVERSE THRUST ON LNDG SLC, UT.
Narrative: UPON SELECTING REVERSE THRUST AFTER TOUCHDOWN, THE L ENG SHUT DOWN ACCOMPANIED BY EICAS MESSAGE 'L ENG SHUTDOWN.' LNDG ROLLOUT WAS COMPLETED. L ENG EGT WAS OBSERVED TO BE RISING, SO L FUEL CTL SWITCH WAS PLACED IN CUTOFF. EGT DECREASED AND TAXI TO GATE WAS ACCOMPLISHED ON THE R ENG. REFLECTING ON THIS OCCURRENCE, I THINK I SHOULD HAVE USED THE POM QRC (WHICH REQUIRES THE FUEL CUTOFF SWITCH TO BE PUT TO CUTOFF) RATHER THAN RELYING ON MEMORY TO DO THIS. ALSO, I SHOULD HAVE HAD GND PERSONNEL VERIFY A CLEAN ENG SHUTDOWN PRIOR TO TAXIING TO THE GATE.
