Narrative:
The airbus A320 arrived at ZZZ on dec/thu/03 with damage to 2 of the aft cargo pit floor panels. We replaced one panel and deferred the 3-INCH diameter damage on the other. I misinterped the srm and was unaware of a maintenance tip that was issued by airbus air carrier X airlines prohibiting any damage on the edge of a panel. With 18 yrs of aircraft experience I still find it hard to believe that damage measuring 3 inches in diameter on a cargo pit floor can ground an aircraft. When the system aircraft maintenance controller discovered the error, the aircraft was grounded at the next station for panel replacement.
