Narrative:
Aircraft X had the captain's HSI instrument dim/bright control on placard, MEL 33-01, authorized and dated jan/sat/04. The dim/bright control rheostat is part of the EFIS control panel. I removed the captain's EFIS control panel and replaced it with panel X, as per the parts catalog. The aircraft departed the gate and the captain was unable to bring up his WX radar display. Aircraft returned to the gate and it was determined to have the wrong effectivity of EFIS control panel installed. Replaced with correct panel (pan 2710). Aircraft departed without incident. The fmr atbt provided wrong effectivity part number.
