Narrative:
Taxiing to takeoff position we heard a bang. Some passenger expressed concern so we turned off the runway and had the aircraft checked out by air carrier mechanics. It was determined that we lost the left nosewheel due to the axle failing.

Title: B737-300 CREW HEARD A 'THUNK' WHEN THE NOSE GEAR AXLE BROKE AND ONE OF THE NOSEWHEELS FELL OFF THE ACFT.
Narrative: TAXIING TO TKOF POS WE HEARD A BANG. SOME PAX EXPRESSED CONCERN SO WE TURNED OFF THE RWY AND HAD THE ACFT CHKED OUT BY ACR MECHS. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT WE LOST THE L NOSEWHEEL DUE TO THE AXLE FAILING.
