Narrative:

While providing flight instruction to a private pilot student we were on a straight-out departure climb from runway 36 at 3AU (steering heading 360 degrees). Approximately 3 mi north of the airport, I noticed relative movement to our left (west). A single-engine low wing GA aircraft was headed directly at our aircraft on a heading of approximately 090 degrees at approximately our same altitude. Within 1 second of seeing the other aircraft, it banked hard right and dove to pass just behind our aircraft. We continued our flight, and tried to ascertain the aircraft's registration number by monitoring the combined TA frequency at 3AU.
