Narrative:

Gpu inoperative. Started r-hand engine to supply electrical power for testing 28 volt system. After about 10 mins, r-hand generator failed with amber caution light. Followed manual procedures, reset generator 2 times. Reset was unsuccessful. Contacted maintenance controller. Maintenance controller requested crew to reset circuit breakers R1 and R2, then reset the generator. This was unsuccessful. Maintenance controller then requested that the crew start the l-hand engine. After l-hand engine start, maintenance controller requested the crew to reset the r-hand generator. Crew advised maintenance controller that we had used the 2 reset attempts permitted by the manual and that we were unable to comply with the request. Maintenance controller advised (with anger) that they would send mechanics on a road trip. Question: can crew follow manual requests to reset circuit breakers and generators? Is this doing maintenance troubleshooting? Is this permitted?

Title: SF340 CREW HAD THE MAINT CTLR REQUEST CIRCUIT BREAKER RESET MORE THAN 2 TIMES IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE ACFT OPERATING MANUAL.

Narrative: GPU INOP. STARTED R-HAND ENG TO SUPPLY ELECTRICAL PWR FOR TESTING 28 VOLT SYS. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINS, R-HAND GENERATOR FAILED WITH AMBER CAUTION LIGHT. FOLLOWED MANUAL PROCS, RESET GENERATOR 2 TIMES. RESET WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. CONTACTED MAINT CTLR. MAINT CTLR REQUESTED CREW TO RESET CIRCUIT BREAKERS R1 AND R2, THEN RESET THE GENERATOR. THIS WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. MAINT CTLR THEN REQUESTED THAT THE CREW START THE L-HAND ENG. AFTER L-HAND ENG START, MAINT CTLR REQUESTED THE CREW TO RESET THE R-HAND GENERATOR. CREW ADVISED MAINT CTLR THAT WE HAD USED THE 2 RESET ATTEMPTS PERMITTED BY THE MANUAL AND THAT WE WERE UNABLE TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUEST. MAINT CTLR ADVISED (WITH ANGER) THAT THEY WOULD SEND MECHS ON A ROAD TRIP. QUESTION: CAN CREW FOLLOW MANUAL REQUESTS TO RESET CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND GENERATORS? IS THIS DOING MAINT TROUBLESHOOTING? IS THIS PERMITTED?
