Narrative:

I was practicing pattern work with pre-solo student. Winds were about 230 degrees at 8-9 KTS. We were on runway 22. We were coming in on our 5TH landing, practicing a power-off emergency landing. Student was in control of airplane and had the runway made. We had no flaps. Over runway, student lost control of airplane by incorrectly adding left rudder and pulling back on yoke excessively. We heard stall horn, drifted to left side of runway and landed on runway with the nose of the airplane to the left. I was taking the airplane, added right rudder and full power to recover from the bounce of the landing. We flew over left edge of runway, hit a runway edge light and I landed the airplane on runway safely. No damage was incurred to airplane at all. A mechanic verified this. 1 runway light was hit. We ended the flight for the day. To prevent a recurrence, I will not allow students to continue an emergency landing unless they have runway made and airspeed is at our best glide speed. I will take control of the airplane sooner if speed and runway landing distance are not safe.

Title: A PA28-181 CFI ALLOWED THE STUDENT TO GET INTO A XCTLED STALL DURING A PWR-OFF LNDG AT ZZZ.

Narrative: I WAS PRACTICING PATTERN WORK WITH PRE-SOLO STUDENT. WINDS WERE ABOUT 230 DEGS AT 8-9 KTS. WE WERE ON RWY 22. WE WERE COMING IN ON OUR 5TH LNDG, PRACTICING A PWR-OFF EMER LNDG. STUDENT WAS IN CTL OF AIRPLANE AND HAD THE RWY MADE. WE HAD NO FLAPS. OVER RWY, STUDENT LOST CTL OF AIRPLANE BY INCORRECTLY ADDING L RUDDER AND PULLING BACK ON YOKE EXCESSIVELY. WE HEARD STALL HORN, DRIFTED TO L SIDE OF RWY AND LANDED ON RWY WITH THE NOSE OF THE AIRPLANE TO THE L. I WAS TAKING THE AIRPLANE, ADDED R RUDDER AND FULL PWR TO RECOVER FROM THE BOUNCE OF THE LNDG. WE FLEW OVER L EDGE OF RWY, HIT A RWY EDGE LIGHT AND I LANDED THE AIRPLANE ON RWY SAFELY. NO DAMAGE WAS INCURRED TO AIRPLANE AT ALL. A MECH VERIFIED THIS. 1 RWY LIGHT WAS HIT. WE ENDED THE FLT FOR THE DAY. TO PREVENT A RECURRENCE, I WILL NOT ALLOW STUDENTS TO CONTINUE AN EMER LNDG UNLESS THEY HAVE RWY MADE AND AIRSPD IS AT OUR BEST GLIDE SPD. I WILL TAKE CTL OF THE AIRPLANE SOONER IF SPD AND RWY LNDG DISTANCE ARE NOT SAFE.
