Narrative:
Encountered severe clear air turbulence east of greenwood, ms, at FL240. Duration approximately 15-20 seconds. Autoplt kicked off and lost approximately 900 ft before aircraft control recovered. Seatbelt sign was already on at the time. No injuries or damage. No convective WX nearby was observed. Encountered during VMC conditions. Dispatch notified, ATC notified, and logbook entry was made.
