Narrative:
During descent into ZZZ, electrical smoke odor was detected in the cockpit. Memory items were performed immediately, followed by emergency checklist (cabin fire or smoke and part of electrical smoke). I called the flight attendant to check for smoke, and she agreed smelling some in the forward cabin. At this point, I told the flight attendant to prepare the cabin for an emergency evacuate/evacuation. I decided to declare an emergency and take the first available runway at ZZZ. We were cleared to land on runway 6, for which we later realized we were too high and decided to switch to runway 30L. After landing and after the aircraft came to a complete stop, the first officer and I ran the emergency evacuate/evacuation checklist, and I gave instruction to the flight attendant to initiate the evacuate/evacuation. This one was done through the main cabin door only. The aircraft was taxied to the gate (by maintenance) and an entry made in aircraft log. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the actual cause of the electrical smoke odor in the cockpit and forward passenger cabin is unknown as maintenance has not reported any findings to the flight crew. The reporter said 3 rumors were heard but no actual facts. The reporter stated the evacuate/evacuation went well with no injuries reported.

Title: AN EMBRAER 145 ON APCH AT 12000 FT DECLARED AN EMER DUE TO ELECTRICAL SMOKE ODOR IN COCKPIT AND FORWARD CABIN. ACFT EVACED.
Narrative: DURING DSCNT INTO ZZZ, ELECTRICAL SMOKE ODOR WAS DETECTED IN THE COCKPIT. MEMORY ITEMS WERE PERFORMED IMMEDIATELY, FOLLOWED BY EMER CHKLIST (CABIN FIRE OR SMOKE AND PART OF ELECTRICAL SMOKE). I CALLED THE FLT ATTENDANT TO CHK FOR SMOKE, AND SHE AGREED SMELLING SOME IN THE FORWARD CABIN. AT THIS POINT, I TOLD THE FLT ATTENDANT TO PREPARE THE CABIN FOR AN EMER EVAC. I DECIDED TO DECLARE AN EMER AND TAKE THE FIRST AVAILABLE RWY AT ZZZ. WE WERE CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 6, FOR WHICH WE LATER REALIZED WE WERE TOO HIGH AND DECIDED TO SWITCH TO RWY 30L. AFTER LNDG AND AFTER THE ACFT CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE FO AND I RAN THE EMER EVAC CHKLIST, AND I GAVE INSTRUCTION TO THE FLT ATTENDANT TO INITIATE THE EVAC. THIS ONE WAS DONE THROUGH THE MAIN CABIN DOOR ONLY. THE ACFT WAS TAXIED TO THE GATE (BY MAINT) AND AN ENTRY MADE IN ACFT LOG. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE ELECTRICAL SMOKE ODOR IN THE COCKPIT AND FORWARD PAX CABIN IS UNKNOWN AS MAINT HAS NOT RPTED ANY FINDINGS TO THE FLT CREW. THE RPTR SAID 3 RUMORS WERE HEARD BUT NO ACTUAL FACTS. THE RPTR STATED THE EVAC WENT WELL WITH NO INJURIES RPTED.
