Narrative:
On the takeoff, I just set the thrust for the first officer (it was his leg). He reached to the flight control panel to center the heading bug. When doing so, he accidentally hit the heading mode which brought up the flight director. In an attempt to clear the flight director, he accidentally engaged the autoplt. This caused an autoplt confign warning and an abort by myself at 70 KIAS. After clearing the runway, assessing the problem, running checklists, and informing passenger, we performed a second uneventful takeoff.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A CL65 FLT CREW INADVERTENTLY TURN ON THE FLT DIRECTOR AND THE AUTOPLT WHILE ON TKOF ROLL RESULTING IN AN ABORTED TKOF.
Narrative: ON THE TKOF, I JUST SET THE THRUST FOR THE FO (IT WAS HIS LEG). HE REACHED TO THE FLT CTL PANEL TO CTR THE HDG BUG. WHEN DOING SO, HE ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE HDG MODE WHICH BROUGHT UP THE FLT DIRECTOR. IN AN ATTEMPT TO CLR THE FLT DIRECTOR, HE ACCIDENTALLY ENGAGED THE AUTOPLT. THIS CAUSED AN AUTOPLT CONFIGN WARNING AND AN ABORT BY MYSELF AT 70 KIAS. AFTER CLRING THE RWY, ASSESSING THE PROB, RUNNING CHKLISTS, AND INFORMING PAX, WE PERFORMED A SECOND UNEVENTFUL TKOF.
