Narrative:

We were taxiing for takeoff on runway 8R at mia. The tower controller asked if we would be ready at the end. We said yes. He cleared us for takeoff on runway 8R. We both heard 'cleared for takeoff.' we got to the end of the runway, taxied onto and turned 90 degrees and just as I was about to power up, we heard another controller's voice clear an air carrier B757 aircraft that had just landed on runway 8L to cross runway 8R. Both of us realized that this was not proper and we told tower that we had been cleared for takeoff. He said 'no, you were cleared into position and hold.' I told him that the previous controller had cleared us for takeoff. There was no other discussion between tower and us about it. After the B757 was clear, tower cleared us for takeoff. I might suppose that the first controller incorrectly told the replacement that we were cleared into position and hold and that is why he cleared the B757 to cross. I feel very confident the tapes will reflect our remembering here. I am glad this did not turn out to be a scary event, but I didn't like that it happened either. It certainly got our attention in the cockpit.

Title: MD80 FLT CREW IS CLRED FOR TKOF AT MIA WITH CONFLICTING XING RWY TFC, STOPS TKOF AND QUESTIONS TWR.

Narrative: WE WERE TAXIING FOR TKOF ON RWY 8R AT MIA. THE TWR CTLR ASKED IF WE WOULD BE READY AT THE END. WE SAID YES. HE CLRED US FOR TKOF ON RWY 8R. WE BOTH HEARD 'CLRED FOR TKOF.' WE GOT TO THE END OF THE RWY, TAXIED ONTO AND TURNED 90 DEGS AND JUST AS I WAS ABOUT TO PWR UP, WE HEARD ANOTHER CTLR'S VOICE CLR AN ACR B757 ACFT THAT HAD JUST LANDED ON RWY 8L TO CROSS RWY 8R. BOTH OF US REALIZED THAT THIS WAS NOT PROPER AND WE TOLD TWR THAT WE HAD BEEN CLRED FOR TKOF. HE SAID 'NO, YOU WERE CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD.' I TOLD HIM THAT THE PREVIOUS CTLR HAD CLRED US FOR TKOF. THERE WAS NO OTHER DISCUSSION BTWN TWR AND US ABOUT IT. AFTER THE B757 WAS CLR, TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF. I MIGHT SUPPOSE THAT THE FIRST CTLR INCORRECTLY TOLD THE REPLACEMENT THAT WE WERE CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD AND THAT IS WHY HE CLRED THE B757 TO CROSS. I FEEL VERY CONFIDENT THE TAPES WILL REFLECT OUR REMEMBERING HERE. I AM GLAD THIS DID NOT TURN OUT TO BE A SCARY EVENT, BUT I DIDN'T LIKE THAT IT HAPPENED EITHER. IT CERTAINLY GOT OUR ATTN IN THE COCKPIT.
