Narrative:
We were downwind for runway 28R at billings, mt. We were level at 7000 ft when we got a TA for an aircraft at our 2 O'clock position at 7000 ft. ATC then calls and gives us a traffic alert for the aircraft the same time we get an RA to descend. We sharply pushed the nose down and descended. We leveled at 6000 ft, then the controller said we were cleared for the visual to runway 28R. We had not said we had the field in sight and the captain said to the controller we had an RA and we would like a heading to the runway because we do not have the field in sight. The controller did and we got the runway in sight and called it. The controller then said cleared for the visual and cleared to land. On the ground, I wanted a phone number to call approach, and called it. The controller said the close call or near miss was his fault. I said I was going to report this event. I asked how close did we come to the other aircraft (which was a beech 99). He said it was real close.

Title: TCASII CONFLICT RESOLUTION BTWN AN CRJ700 AND A BE99 ON A DOWNWIND FOR RWY 28R AT BIL, MT.
Narrative: WE WERE DOWNWIND FOR RWY 28R AT BILLINGS, MT. WE WERE LEVEL AT 7000 FT WHEN WE GOT A TA FOR AN ACFT AT OUR 2 O'CLOCK POS AT 7000 FT. ATC THEN CALLS AND GIVES US A TFC ALERT FOR THE ACFT THE SAME TIME WE GET AN RA TO DSND. WE SHARPLY PUSHED THE NOSE DOWN AND DSNDED. WE LEVELED AT 6000 FT, THEN THE CTLR SAID WE WERE CLRED FOR THE VISUAL TO RWY 28R. WE HAD NOT SAID WE HAD THE FIELD IN SIGHT AND THE CAPT SAID TO THE CTLR WE HAD AN RA AND WE WOULD LIKE A HDG TO THE RWY BECAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE THE FIELD IN SIGHT. THE CTLR DID AND WE GOT THE RWY IN SIGHT AND CALLED IT. THE CTLR THEN SAID CLRED FOR THE VISUAL AND CLRED TO LAND. ON THE GND, I WANTED A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL APCH, AND CALLED IT. THE CTLR SAID THE CLOSE CALL OR NEAR MISS WAS HIS FAULT. I SAID I WAS GOING TO RPT THIS EVENT. I ASKED HOW CLOSE DID WE COME TO THE OTHER ACFT (WHICH WAS A BEECH 99). HE SAID IT WAS REAL CLOSE.
