Narrative:
Captain slowed aircraft to approximately 10-15 KTS to exit runway at the end. Runway wet. As we approached the end of the runway and the desired exit, captain remarked that the brakes were not decelerated aircraft normally. Aircraft entered overrun approximately 1/2 aircraft length then safely stopped. Determined sufficient clearance to exit and did so without damage to aircraft or ground lighting. Taxied very slowly to gate. Captain remarked again about the unusual brake pedal pressure and it required the 2 of us to set the parking brake. Captain entered discrepancies in logbook. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated when the taxiway turnoff past by my window and the airplane started into the overrun area, 'it raised my anxiety level.' the reporter said the airplane was turned around and taxied very slowly to the terminal and on to the gate. The reporter stated it took both crew members excessive force to set the parking brake. The reporter said maintenance bled all the brakes and taxi checked the airplane ok for service.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B767-300ER REQUIRED EXCESSIVE BRAKE PRESSURE TO SLOW ACFT. ACFT ENTERED RWY OVERRUN. AT GATE, TOOK BOTH CREW MEMBERS TO SET PARKING BRAKE.
Narrative: CAPT SLOWED ACFT TO APPROX 10-15 KTS TO EXIT RWY AT THE END. RWY WET. AS WE APCHED THE END OF THE RWY AND THE DESIRED EXIT, CAPT REMARKED THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT DECELERATED ACFT NORMALLY. ACFT ENTERED OVERRUN APPROX 1/2 ACFT LENGTH THEN SAFELY STOPPED. DETERMINED SUFFICIENT CLRNC TO EXIT AND DID SO WITHOUT DAMAGE TO ACFT OR GND LIGHTING. TAXIED VERY SLOWLY TO GATE. CAPT REMARKED AGAIN ABOUT THE UNUSUAL BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE AND IT REQUIRED THE 2 OF US TO SET THE PARKING BRAKE. CAPT ENTERED DISCREPANCIES IN LOGBOOK. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED WHEN THE TXWY TURNOFF PAST BY MY WINDOW AND THE AIRPLANE STARTED INTO THE OVERRUN AREA, 'IT RAISED MY ANXIETY LEVEL.' THE RPTR SAID THE AIRPLANE WAS TURNED AROUND AND TAXIED VERY SLOWLY TO THE TERMINAL AND ON TO THE GATE. THE RPTR STATED IT TOOK BOTH CREW MEMBERS EXCESSIVE FORCE TO SET THE PARKING BRAKE. THE RPTR SAID MAINT BLED ALL THE BRAKES AND TAXI CHKED THE AIRPLANE OK FOR SVC.
