Narrative:
Our flight was in position and hold on runway 1L. We were cleared for takeoff. As the captain (PNF), I acknowledged cleared for takeoff runway 1L. We followed the sfo 8 instructions and turned right to 030 degrees. Departure control asked us if tower had assigned us runway heading. I responded no. If tower had, I did not hear it and did not read back a heading. Departure control cleared us direct to rbl. Apparently, another air carrier flight took off on runway 1R slightly behind us. Our heading brought our flight path in front of his by about 2 mi. Departure said they were checking with tower. I did not hear directions to fly runway heading, but did hear something about expect vectors to rbl. I read back only 'flight abc, cleared for takeoff runway 1L.'
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DEP CTLR ADVISES DEP B737-500 FLT CREW THAT THEIR TURN TO 030 DEGS AFTER DEP RWY 1L HAD CREATED A POTENTIAL CONFLICT WITH TFC OFF RWY 1R AT SFO.
Narrative: OUR FLT WAS IN POS AND HOLD ON RWY 1L. WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. AS THE CAPT (PNF), I ACKNOWLEDGED CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 1L. WE FOLLOWED THE SFO 8 INSTRUCTIONS AND TURNED R TO 030 DEGS. DEP CTL ASKED US IF TWR HAD ASSIGNED US RWY HDG. I RESPONDED NO. IF TWR HAD, I DID NOT HEAR IT AND DID NOT READ BACK A HDG. DEP CTL CLRED US DIRECT TO RBL. APPARENTLY, ANOTHER ACR FLT TOOK OFF ON RWY 1R SLIGHTLY BEHIND US. OUR HDG BROUGHT OUR FLT PATH IN FRONT OF HIS BY ABOUT 2 MI. DEP SAID THEY WERE CHKING WITH TWR. I DID NOT HEAR DIRECTIONS TO FLY RWY HDG, BUT DID HEAR SOMETHING ABOUT EXPECT VECTORS TO RBL. I READ BACK ONLY 'FLT ABC, CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 1L.'
