Narrative:

I was given clearance to runway 17 via taxiway B. As I was taxiing, I looked at a small photo copy of the airport diagram I had on my knee board. The copy is poor quality and taxiway B did not seem to go to runway 17. I became confused and turned left on taxiway north and proceeded about 300 ft toward runway 17. I was told by ground control to stop, hold short! I stopped immediately and replied 'hold short.' someone else on ground frequency replied runway incursion. (I had passed the hold short line.) I was told to go to tower frequency for takeoff. I was confused about just what to do, so I called back and asked for a repeat of instructions. A different controller advised I had 2000 ft for takeoff at my location. I asked for back-taxi clearance and progressive taxi help back to taxiway B and runway 17. I was cleared to back taxi, but did not get progressive taxi instructions and went past taxiway B about 20-30 ft. Ground then said I passed my turn, so I turned back to taxiway B for runway 17. I will get a better and larger copy of the airport diagram that clearly shows the txwys. I was at fault. I should have stopped and asked when I had doubt. The WX was not good and there were no other aircraft taking off or landing. I was surprised that 2 controllers appeared to be watching me turn on taxiway north and get just across a hold short line before saying stop or questioning me of my intentions or at least pointing out I had made a wrong turn.

Title: C172 TAXING FOR DEP AT GGG EXPERIENCED RWY INCURSION.

Narrative: I WAS GIVEN CLRNC TO RWY 17 VIA TXWY B. AS I WAS TAXIING, I LOOKED AT A SMALL PHOTO COPY OF THE ARPT DIAGRAM I HAD ON MY KNEE BOARD. THE COPY IS POOR QUALITY AND TXWY B DID NOT SEEM TO GO TO RWY 17. I BECAME CONFUSED AND TURNED L ON TXWY N AND PROCEEDED ABOUT 300 FT TOWARD RWY 17. I WAS TOLD BY GND CTL TO STOP, HOLD SHORT! I STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND REPLIED 'HOLD SHORT.' SOMEONE ELSE ON GND FREQ REPLIED RWY INCURSION. (I HAD PASSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE.) I WAS TOLD TO GO TO TWR FREQ FOR TKOF. I WAS CONFUSED ABOUT JUST WHAT TO DO, SO I CALLED BACK AND ASKED FOR A REPEAT OF INSTRUCTIONS. A DIFFERENT CTLR ADVISED I HAD 2000 FT FOR TKOF AT MY LOCATION. I ASKED FOR BACK-TAXI CLRNC AND PROGRESSIVE TAXI HELP BACK TO TXWY B AND RWY 17. I WAS CLRED TO BACK TAXI, BUT DID NOT GET PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS AND WENT PAST TXWY B ABOUT 20-30 FT. GND THEN SAID I PASSED MY TURN, SO I TURNED BACK TO TXWY B FOR RWY 17. I WILL GET A BETTER AND LARGER COPY OF THE ARPT DIAGRAM THAT CLRLY SHOWS THE TXWYS. I WAS AT FAULT. I SHOULD HAVE STOPPED AND ASKED WHEN I HAD DOUBT. THE WX WAS NOT GOOD AND THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT TAKING OFF OR LNDG. I WAS SURPRISED THAT 2 CTLRS APPEARED TO BE WATCHING ME TURN ON TXWY N AND GET JUST ACROSS A HOLD SHORT LINE BEFORE SAYING STOP OR QUESTIONING ME OF MY INTENTIONS OR AT LEAST POINTING OUT I HAD MADE A WRONG TURN.
