Narrative:

Upon, leveling at 9000 ft, we noticed a hydraulic lock down on our captain panel. We then saw low pressure hydraulic warnings on our center panel followed by a complete loss of hydraulic reservoir contents and hydraulic pressure. We consulted the emergency checklists for the specific problems and informed ATC we would be returning to stl for an emergency landing. I requested runway 30L and asked them to roll the emergency equipment. I also relayed the nature of the problem to ATC and told them we were without steering and without main brakes. My first officer and I completed all appropriate checklists and briefed the flight attendant and passenger on the emergency and what to expect. We landed on runway 30L and rolled to a stop using reverse thrust. All the passenger and crew were fine and there was no damage to the airplane. A bus came out on the runway and picked us all up, while maintenance towed the aircraft to the hanger. We later discovered that a main hydraulic line was severed resulting in the problem. In the process of deplaning and securing the plane with the help of maintenance, it was unclr who was writing up the hydraulic failures. Even though this emergency was uneventful and proved a success, I think we could all have benefited from a post-emergency checklist of some sort. A checklist like this would help the crew and maintenance cover all their bases.

A CHKLIST LIKE THIS WOULD HELP THE CREW AND MAINT COVER ALL THEIR BASES.
