Narrative:
Advised center of test requiring protected airspace FL310, FL350, FL370 to 15000 ft MSL. Cleared to conduct test at FL310, completed test, requested FL350. At FL350, cleared for test, completed. Requested FL370, verified routing and clear to test. Engine stalled and commenced descent. Did not declare emergency as understood cleared for test FL370 to 15000 ft (well within relight envelope). Relight completed at FL220 and returned to base. Asked to contact center. Some misunderstanding of clearance for test between aircraft and center. Remedy: with each controller, verify understanding of test to be performed and parameters of testing.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CPR JET ON AN ENG FLT TEST, BELIEVING THEY HAD AN ALT BLOCK CLRNC, LEAVES THEIR ASSIGNED ALT OF FL370 FOR FL220 FOR ENG RESTART WITHOUT CLRNC FROM CTLR AT ZFW, TX.
Narrative: ADVISED CTR OF TEST REQUIRING PROTECTED AIRSPACE FL310, FL350, FL370 TO 15000 FT MSL. CLRED TO CONDUCT TEST AT FL310, COMPLETED TEST, REQUESTED FL350. AT FL350, CLRED FOR TEST, COMPLETED. REQUESTED FL370, VERIFIED ROUTING AND CLR TO TEST. ENG STALLED AND COMMENCED DSCNT. DID NOT DECLARE EMER AS UNDERSTOOD CLRED FOR TEST FL370 TO 15000 FT (WELL WITHIN RELIGHT ENVELOPE). RELIGHT COMPLETED AT FL220 AND RETURNED TO BASE. ASKED TO CONTACT CTR. SOME MISUNDERSTANDING OF CLRNC FOR TEST BTWN ACFT AND CTR. REMEDY: WITH EACH CTLR, VERIFY UNDERSTANDING OF TEST TO BE PERFORMED AND PARAMETERS OF TESTING.
