Narrative:
The flight crew called prior to departure with an elac #1 fault light on (illuminated). We used MEL 27938 titled 'fault light on elac push button switch.' I feel that this MEL card is misleading and needs to be reworded. I read this MEL card as the elac fault light on the switch is on (illuminated) instead of the fault light being inoperative. After the flight left, I reviewed the MEL and realized I should have used MEL elac #1 inoperative.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN AIRBUS 319 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE INCORRECT ITEM DEFERRED. ELAC #1 FAULT LIGHT WAS DEFERRED, SHOULD HAVE BEEN ELAC #1.
