Narrative:
APU failed during push out at lax, so I had us towed back to the gate and maintenance came out and placarded the APU inoperative. The mechanic and I checked the MEL which no longer addresses checking CSD's and x-tie on first flight. We flew to sfo and then on to dfw before I figured out what we missed this morning. This was the 4TH aircraft we had been assigned since arriving in lax and we were several hours late. Sfo was holding the maui flight for 23 connecting passenger and in the rush I forgot to check the MEL information on the flight plan which is where the information was located. I called maintenance this morning to make sure that if dfw maintenance or the outbound flight crew had not caught the omission that maintenance would catch it at aircraft's first stop today.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN MD80 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE APU DEFERRED PER THE MEL, BUT THE CSD OIL LEVELS AND X-TIE SYS WAS NOT CHKED.
Narrative: APU FAILED DURING PUSH OUT AT LAX, SO I HAD US TOWED BACK TO THE GATE AND MAINT CAME OUT AND PLACARDED THE APU INOP. THE MECH AND I CHKED THE MEL WHICH NO LONGER ADDRESSES CHKING CSD'S AND X-TIE ON FIRST FLT. WE FLEW TO SFO AND THEN ON TO DFW BEFORE I FIGURED OUT WHAT WE MISSED THIS MORNING. THIS WAS THE 4TH ACFT WE HAD BEEN ASSIGNED SINCE ARRIVING IN LAX AND WE WERE SEVERAL HRS LATE. SFO WAS HOLDING THE MAUI FLT FOR 23 CONNECTING PAX AND IN THE RUSH I FORGOT TO CHK THE MEL INFO ON THE FLT PLAN WHICH IS WHERE THE INFO WAS LOCATED. I CALLED MAINT THIS MORNING TO MAKE SURE THAT IF DFW MAINT OR THE OUTBOUND FLT CREW HAD NOT CAUGHT THE OMISSION THAT MAINT WOULD CATCH IT AT ACFT'S FIRST STOP TODAY.
