Narrative:
Catering truck was at the rear service entrance just prior to departure push. Aft galley door light extinguished and the tug driver called cleared below ready to push. I released the brakes, ramp told us to hold for inbound aircraft to gate. We held for 2-3 mins, then began our push. We got 10 ft back when we stopped and the driver reported hitting a catering truck. Outside aft portion of the trailing edge of the left flaps was damaged slightly. Fiberglass was broken and the metal stringer inside had very slight damage. I do not know the status of the wingman on that side of the aircraft during push. The tug was connected to the aircraft in a slightly turned position, off to aircraft right, possibly shielding the driver's view behind the left wing. Supplemental information from acn 622865: we were unable to see the truck aft of the left wing or the wing walker from our position. Maintenance inspected aircraft and took it OTS.

Title: AN MD80 FLT CREW RPTED THAT, DURING PUSHBACK AT DFW, THE TUG DRIVER PUSHED THEM INTO A CATERING TRUCK, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE ACFT WHICH HAD TO BE TAKEN OTS.
Narrative: CATERING TRUCK WAS AT THE REAR SVC ENTRANCE JUST PRIOR TO DEP PUSH. AFT GALLEY DOOR LIGHT EXTINGUISHED AND THE TUG DRIVER CALLED CLRED BELOW READY TO PUSH. I RELEASED THE BRAKES, RAMP TOLD US TO HOLD FOR INBOUND ACFT TO GATE. WE HELD FOR 2-3 MINS, THEN BEGAN OUR PUSH. WE GOT 10 FT BACK WHEN WE STOPPED AND THE DRIVER RPTED HITTING A CATERING TRUCK. OUTSIDE AFT PORTION OF THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE L FLAPS WAS DAMAGED SLIGHTLY. FIBERGLASS WAS BROKEN AND THE METAL STRINGER INSIDE HAD VERY SLIGHT DAMAGE. I DO NOT KNOW THE STATUS OF THE WINGMAN ON THAT SIDE OF THE ACFT DURING PUSH. THE TUG WAS CONNECTED TO THE ACFT IN A SLIGHTLY TURNED POS, OFF TO ACFT R, POSSIBLY SHIELDING THE DRIVER'S VIEW BEHIND THE L WING. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 622865: WE WERE UNABLE TO SEE THE TRUCK AFT OF THE L WING OR THE WING WALKER FROM OUR POS. MAINT INSPECTED ACFT AND TOOK IT OTS.
