Narrative:
Passenger seated in XXX was arguing with another passenger. I interfered and reseated the second passenger and his daughter. I surveyed the cabin and asked 4 big men for help if needed. I moved passenger in seat xxy and xxz and sat down to survey passenger in XXX (the one causing the original disturbance). He was quiet for a few mins. I asked him if he was taking any medication. He stared at me and made a loud humming noise, then grasped my head and grabbed my wrist/arm thrusting it over seat. I yelled 'ouch! That hurts' and then when I felt extreme pain and couldn't release my arm from his hold I screamed 'help me.' the 4 men grabbed him and held him down as another flight attendant locked handcuffs on his wrist and seat belts on his legs. He wrestled uncontrollably yelling and cursing at everyone. Arrived in koa and were met by the fbi who took the passenger away commenting 'passenger name, we have been looking for you for 8 months.' we were questioned by fbi. We worked home, not fully comprehending what was happening. I called our union representatives before we left for direction, but it was approximately XG00 and I got their voice mail. We had a meeting the next monday with the company. I also saw my doctor on monday. My wrist is sore and bruised but not broken. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter advised that her narrative about fbi agents' comments regarding the arrested passenger's previous legal problems were hearsay from another flight attendant. Although she has initiated contact with the fbi regarding the status of the incident and the passenger, the reporter advised she has received no more information on the conduct or outcome of the investigation. It is her understanding the company will pursue legal action, but reporter stated she has not been contacted to participate at this point in time. The reporter stated that the meeting to which she referred in her narrative which had been conducted by the company was to determine her mental and physical well being. Reporter stated she is currently undergoing physical therapy at the company's expense, is wearing a brace on the injured arm, but has not chosen to remove herself from flight status.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PAX ABOARD B757 ENRTE TO HAWAII TURNS BELLIGERENT AND VIOLENT, INJURING FLT ATTENDANT. SUBDUED AND RESTRAINED BY ASSISTING PAX AND SECOND FLT ATTENDANT.
Narrative: PAX SEATED IN XXX WAS ARGUING WITH ANOTHER PAX. I INTERFERED AND RESEATED THE SECOND PAX AND HIS DAUGHTER. I SURVEYED THE CABIN AND ASKED 4 BIG MEN FOR HELP IF NEEDED. I MOVED PAX IN SEAT XXY AND XXZ AND SAT DOWN TO SURVEY PAX IN XXX (THE ONE CAUSING THE ORIGINAL DISTURBANCE). THAT HURTS' AND THEN WHEN I FELT EXTREME PAIN AND COULDN'T RELEASE MY ARM FROM HIS HOLD I SCREAMED 'HELP ME.' THE 4 MEN GRABBED HIM AND HELD HIM DOWN AS ANOTHER FLT ATTENDANT LOCKED HANDCUFFS ON HIS WRIST AND SEAT BELTS ON HIS LEGS. HE WRESTLED UNCONTROLLABLY YELLING AND CURSING AT EVERYONE. ARRIVED IN KOA AND WERE MET BY THE FBI WHO TOOK THE PAX AWAY COMMENTING 'PAX NAME, WE HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU FOR 8 MONTHS.' WE WERE QUESTIONED BY FBI. WE WORKED HOME, NOT FULLY COMPREHENDING WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I CALLED OUR UNION REPRESENTATIVES BEFORE WE LEFT FOR DIRECTION, BUT IT WAS APPROX XG00 AND I GOT THEIR VOICE MAIL. WE HAD A MEETING THE NEXT MONDAY WITH THE COMPANY. I ALSO SAW MY DOCTOR ON MONDAY. MY WRIST IS SORE AND BRUISED BUT NOT BROKEN. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR ADVISED THAT HER NARRATIVE ABOUT FBI AGENTS' COMMENTS REGARDING THE ARRESTED PAX'S PREVIOUS LEGAL PROBS WERE HEARSAY FROM ANOTHER FLT ATTENDANT. ALTHOUGH SHE HAS INITIATED CONTACT WITH THE FBI REGARDING THE STATUS OF THE INCIDENT AND THE PAX, THE RPTR ADVISED SHE HAS RECEIVED NO MORE INFO ON THE CONDUCT OR OUTCOME OF THE INVESTIGATION. IT IS HER UNDERSTANDING THE COMPANY WILL PURSUE LEGAL ACTION, BUT RPTR STATED SHE HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED TO PARTICIPATE AT THIS POINT IN TIME. THE RPTR STATED THAT THE MEETING TO WHICH SHE REFERRED IN HER NARRATIVE WHICH HAD BEEN CONDUCTED BY THE COMPANY WAS TO DETERMINE HER MENTAL AND PHYSICAL WELL BEING. RPTR STATED SHE IS CURRENTLY UNDERGOING PHYSICAL THERAPY AT THE COMPANY'S EXPENSE, IS WEARING A BRACE ON THE INJURED ARM, BUT HAS NOT CHOSEN TO REMOVE HERSELF FROM FLT STATUS.
