Narrative:
Center assigned me to cross 25 mi east of rbd at what I believed to be 5000 ft. Later, they alleged, via phone talk, that my assignment was 8000 ft at 25 mi and that my descent to 5000 ft caused a conflict with a commuter airliner provoking its evasive action. Future doubts of this nature can be prevented by more diligence in my recording via notes or dial position all readbacks of clearance. Listening to their recordings will confirm and better help me to understand how I managed to make this error, if any error was truly made.
