Narrative:
Aircraft #3, multi-engine, unknown, land runway 14, slc. Safety issue, possible runway incursion. Brief runway 16L, visual approach, slc. Traffic in sight. Slc tower then cleared us for visual approach runway 17, follow traffic. Note: aircraft #2, turboprop in line behind us. Less than 1000 ft AGL, slc tower cleared us to land runway 17, roll to the end, and hold short runway 14. We landed runway 17, and rolled to the end. We got off the centerline of runway 17, but did not exit runway 17, in order to hold short runway 14. Slc tower told aircraft #2 to 'go around.' aircraft #2 did the go around. Aircraft #3, multi-engine, unknown, landed runway 14. I did not like sitting on the active runway with traffic behind us. The controller's clearance was unclr to us. The controller tried to fit too many aircraft in, with not enough spacing. We were cleared to taxi to the ramp.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B727 FLT CREW EXPERIENCED CONCERN WHEN INSTRUCTED TO HOLD ON THE LNDG RWY FOR TFC LNDG ON CONVERGING RWY EVENTUALLY ENDING WITH GAR.
Narrative: ACFT #3, MULTI-ENG, UNKNOWN, LAND RWY 14, SLC. SAFETY ISSUE, POSSIBLE RWY INCURSION. BRIEF RWY 16L, VISUAL APCH, SLC. TFC IN SIGHT. SLC TWR THEN CLRED US FOR VISUAL APCH RWY 17, FOLLOW TFC. NOTE: ACFT #2, TURBOPROP IN LINE BEHIND US. LESS THAN 1000 FT AGL, SLC TWR CLRED US TO LAND RWY 17, ROLL TO THE END, AND HOLD SHORT RWY 14. WE LANDED RWY 17, AND ROLLED TO THE END. WE GOT OFF THE CTRLINE OF RWY 17, BUT DID NOT EXIT RWY 17, IN ORDER TO HOLD SHORT RWY 14. SLC TWR TOLD ACFT #2 TO 'GO AROUND.' ACFT #2 DID THE GAR. ACFT #3, MULTI-ENG, UNKNOWN, LANDED RWY 14. I DID NOT LIKE SITTING ON THE ACTIVE RWY WITH TFC BEHIND US. THE CTLR'S CLRNC WAS UNCLR TO US. THE CTLR TRIED TO FIT TOO MANY ACFT IN, WITH NOT ENOUGH SPACING. WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI TO THE RAMP.
