Narrative:

A cargo net lock was missing and had been deferred by maintenance via an open items list allowing flight to continue for unknown number of legs. This is an first officer crew duty (as per our flight manual) to preflight. Contributing to this event was the fact that maintenance had left 2 airworthiness release documents (ard functions as maintenance log book) at aircraft along with one open write-up, requiring significant coordination with maintenance prior to preflight. The aircraft also had many other deferred items including APU, causing high heat in cockpit for preflight. I was informed that this occurred by our flight safety department after the fact.
