Narrative:
While holding short of runway 8R at grr, tower cleared us to take off runway 8R. Their wording was, 'air carrier X, amend your climb out instructions, now climb and maintain 3000 ft, after departure climb runway heading, cleared for takeoff runway 8R.' the first officer was the PF, controls were xferred to him and the takeoff roll was begun. At approximately 110-115 KTS, just prior to V1, the tower called and said 'air carrier X cancel takeoff clearance.' at this point I observed an air carrier Y emb on landing rollout on runway 35. As I took control of the aircraft and began an aborted takeoff, the tower called back and instructed us to hold short of runway 35. The aborted takeoff procedure was completed, we exited the runway at taxiway A1 and tower called and instructed us 'turn left on taxiway a, taxi to runway 8R for departure.' at this point I questioned the controller as to what had happened and he simply stated that another aircraft had been cleared to land on an opposing runway. When I questioned how this had happened, I received no reply. At this point I told the controller that our brakes were overheated and we would need to park and wait for them to cool before we could depart. I also asked for and received a phone for the tower supervisor. While waiting for the brakes to cool, I phoned the tower and was told the matter would be looked into. After the brakes cooled, a normal takeoff was accomplished. I believe this was caused because a mistake was made in us being cleared for takeoff while another airplane was landing on a crossing runway. I feel the tower should have recognized this sooner and aborted our takeoff sooner. I also feel that the rising terrain between the approach end of runway 8R and runway 35 made it impossible for us to see the other aircraft touching down. The lack of concern shown by the tower controller also leads me to believe that the seriousness of this situation has been missed.

Title: E145 IS INSTRUCTED BY GRR TWR TO CANCEL TKOF DURING DEP ROLL BECAUSE OF CONFLICT TFC LNDG ON INTERSECTING RWY.
Narrative: WHILE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 8R AT GRR, TWR CLRED US TO TAKE OFF RWY 8R. THEIR WORDING WAS, 'ACR X, AMEND YOUR CLBOUT INSTRUCTIONS, NOW CLB AND MAINTAIN 3000 FT, AFTER DEP CLB RWY HDG, CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 8R.' THE FO WAS THE PF, CTLS WERE XFERRED TO HIM AND THE TKOF ROLL WAS BEGUN. AT APPROX 110-115 KTS, JUST PRIOR TO V1, THE TWR CALLED AND SAID 'ACR X CANCEL TKOF CLRNC.' AT THIS POINT I OBSERVED AN ACR Y EMB ON LNDG ROLLOUT ON RWY 35. AS I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT AND BEGAN AN ABORTED TKOF, THE TWR CALLED BACK AND INSTRUCTED US TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 35. THE ABORTED TKOF PROC WAS COMPLETED, WE EXITED THE RWY AT TXWY A1 AND TWR CALLED AND INSTRUCTED US 'TURN L ON TXWY A, TAXI TO RWY 8R FOR DEP.' AT THIS POINT I QUESTIONED THE CTLR AS TO WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND HE SIMPLY STATED THAT ANOTHER ACFT HAD BEEN CLRED TO LAND ON AN OPPOSING RWY. WHEN I QUESTIONED HOW THIS HAD HAPPENED, I RECEIVED NO REPLY. AT THIS POINT I TOLD THE CTLR THAT OUR BRAKES WERE OVERHEATED AND WE WOULD NEED TO PARK AND WAIT FOR THEM TO COOL BEFORE WE COULD DEPART. I ALSO ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED A PHONE FOR THE TWR SUPVR. WHILE WAITING FOR THE BRAKES TO COOL, I PHONED THE TWR AND WAS TOLD THE MATTER WOULD BE LOOKED INTO. AFTER THE BRAKES COOLED, A NORMAL TKOF WAS ACCOMPLISHED. I BELIEVE THIS WAS CAUSED BECAUSE A MISTAKE WAS MADE IN US BEING CLRED FOR TKOF WHILE ANOTHER AIRPLANE WAS LNDG ON A XING RWY. I FEEL THE TWR SHOULD HAVE RECOGNIZED THIS SOONER AND ABORTED OUR TKOF SOONER. I ALSO FEEL THAT THE RISING TERRAIN BTWN THE APCH END OF RWY 8R AND RWY 35 MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR US TO SEE THE OTHER ACFT TOUCHING DOWN. THE LACK OF CONCERN SHOWN BY THE TWR CTLR ALSO LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS SIT HAS BEEN MISSED.
