Narrative:
On a flight to bur we encountered a cell over the hec VOR. We asked ZLA which direction was the best to avoid the cell. She responded we could go 15 degrees to the right or 25 degrees to the left. The deviation required exceeded 15 degrees right so we opted for the left deviation. The controller cleared us to deviate. We were on an approximately 200 degree heading for a few mins when she said we were entering restr airspace. We were surprised as we asked her about our 200 degree heading and she said it was fine. We squawked 7700 for approximately 5 mins. The controller asked us to turn 90 degrees to the right which we were unable to do at that time. When we cleared the cell, we proceeded direct pmd VOR. We felt the controller did not clearly communicate how our flight path would penetrate restr airspace. To prevent this event in the future, pilot/dispatch communication for a better route would improve safety and efficiency.

Title: B737 CREW NEAR HEC ENTER A RESTR AREA AFTER RECEIVING CLRNC TO DEVIATE AROUND A WX CELL.
Narrative: ON A FLT TO BUR WE ENCOUNTERED A CELL OVER THE HEC VOR. WE ASKED ZLA WHICH DIRECTION WAS THE BEST TO AVOID THE CELL. SHE RESPONDED WE COULD GO 15 DEGS TO THE R OR 25 DEGS TO THE L. THE DEV REQUIRED EXCEEDED 15 DEGS R SO WE OPTED FOR THE L DEV. THE CTLR CLRED US TO DEVIATE. WE WERE ON AN APPROX 200 DEG HDG FOR A FEW MINS WHEN SHE SAID WE WERE ENTERING RESTR AIRSPACE. WE WERE SURPRISED AS WE ASKED HER ABOUT OUR 200 DEG HDG AND SHE SAID IT WAS FINE. WE SQUAWKED 7700 FOR APPROX 5 MINS. THE CTLR ASKED US TO TURN 90 DEGS TO THE R WHICH WE WERE UNABLE TO DO AT THAT TIME. WHEN WE CLRED THE CELL, WE PROCEEDED DIRECT PMD VOR. WE FELT THE CTLR DID NOT CLRLY COMMUNICATE HOW OUR FLT PATH WOULD PENETRATE RESTR AIRSPACE. TO PREVENT THIS EVENT IN THE FUTURE, PLT/DISPATCH COM FOR A BETTER RTE WOULD IMPROVE SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY.
