Narrative:

After landing at mia, the ramp was closed due to thunderstorms in the area. We were holding on taxiway hh waiting for gate to become available. The ramp then opened, but we still had a wait of approximately 1.5 hours to get to the gate. Flight attendant in charge advised that passenger was diabetic and was getting ill. I asked the flight attendant if there was a doctor on board to check her condition. A few mins later, he told me that a nurse was aboard and checked her condition. At this point, passenger was reported to be unconscious and in diabetic shock. We declared an emergency and ground control did a superb job of clearing traffic to get us to gate where paramedics were waiting and treated the passenger.
