Narrative:
En route to cvg, we began to experience intermittent low oil messages with fluctuating oil pressure. After consulting the QRH, the indication began to stabilize so no further action was taken. Further into the flight, the oil pressure continued to fluctuate with intermittent oil pressure warnings. We then made the decision to shut down the engine. An emergency was declared with trucks standing by. After reviewing the log, it was determined that the engine did not have a history of high oil consumption. It still remains to be seen if simple low oil quantity was the problem.
