Narrative:
At liftoff the xfer bus (left side) failed. Captain lost lighting for instruments. I took control of aircraft. My instruments and lights worked fine. We ran the QRH checklist and returned to clt uneventfully.

Title: A B737-400 XFER BUS FAILED AT LIFTOFF DURING LEVELOFF.
Narrative: AT LIFTOFF THE XFER BUS (L SIDE) FAILED. CAPT LOST LIGHTING FOR INSTS. I TOOK CTL OF ACFT. MY INSTS AND LIGHTS WORKED FINE. WE RAN THE QRH CHKLIST AND RETURNED TO CLT UNEVENTFULLY.
