Narrative:
After receiving ATIS and it stated that VFR conditions existed, the flight departed on a VFR formation training flight. The WX conditions were discussed between both air crews in both aircraft (C12 and C550). Neither set of crews saw any problems with the forecasted WX of 4000 ft scattered. The decision was made to depart to the west. Upon climb out, the lead aircraft inadvertently encountered unforecasted WX while in radar contact and talking to departure at approximately 2400 ft MSL. Since the crew was already talking to departure, they asked for an IFR clearance to ZZZ1. 15 seconds after the aircraft inadvertently entered the cloud, the aircraft was back in VFR conditions. The 2 aircraft were talking to each other on a company frequency and terminated the flight. They each got separate IFR clrncs back without further incident.
