Narrative:
We departed the gate in cmh at XA10 with a wheels up time of XA30. While waiting for takeoff ATC informed us that ord shut them down and would update us when they knew something. Finally at XB20 we were told that we had a wheels up time of XB39. I had the engines shut down to conserve fuel and at XB35 I called dispatch to have him adjust my minimum takeoff fuel, so I would be legal for departure. At the same time ATC told me to taxi up to and hold short of runway 28R. I quickly told dispatch to hold on, switched to communication #1 to tell the controller that we had both engines shut down. Very sarcastically, he told me that he told us what our wheels up time was and that we should have been ready. In the same tone of voice I told him that we only needed 2 mins to be ready. He told me he didn't know that since he didn't fly my airplane. Someone else from a different aircraft said thank god. At this point he told me to call the tower supervisor. I told him that it wasn't me who made the comment, but I would call him. Meanwhile as we were starting the engines I returned to communication #2 to get the new numbers from dispatch and a 'dtg.' I apologized to the dispatcher for keeping him on hold and in the heat of the moment said the controller was being an (expletive). I know I shouldn't have said that, but it just blurted out. Anyway, I got my numbers and departed. He said that he was pulling the tapes and going all the way up. I told him that would be good because then he would be able to tell that the voice that said thank god was not me. He also said that XXX in cmh was going to report me for saying my comment on the radio. I feel that my tone of voice with the controller is not what upset him, it was the 'thank god' comment. If it was my tone of voice, I only talked to him the way he talked to me. If it was the thank god comment then it wasn't me and they have to play the tapes to figure out who it was. How cmh operations got involved in this is beyond me. I called the girl who was working the radios in operations and she told me she didn't even hear the comment.
