Narrative:
Level on the bearr arrival to slc, the autoplt/altitude trim circuit breaker popped (2 of 3). Simultaneously received a 30 degree left radar vector from ATC. Captain turned to identify popped circuit breakers and did not hear clearance. Altitude hold feature was unable to hold the altitude due to aircraft being out of trim (nose down) and aircraft descended approximately 500 ft before recovery was made. ATC inquired about heading and turn was initiated. No traffic was noted in the vicinity and ATC never indicated any conflict with other aircraft. Aircraft hand flown/trimmed for duration of flight. Maintenance addressed problem in slc upon arrival.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MD90 CREW HAD AN ALTDEV AND HDG DEV AFTER THE AUTOPLT ALTERNATE LONGITUDINAL TRIM CIRCUIT BREAKERS POPPED.
Narrative: LEVEL ON THE BEARR ARR TO SLC, THE AUTOPLT/ALT TRIM CIRCUIT BREAKER POPPED (2 OF 3). SIMULTANEOUSLY RECEIVED A 30 DEG L RADAR VECTOR FROM ATC. CAPT TURNED TO IDENT POPPED CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND DID NOT HEAR CLRNC. ALT HOLD FEATURE WAS UNABLE TO HOLD THE ALT DUE TO ACFT BEING OUT OF TRIM (NOSE DOWN) AND ACFT DSNDED APPROX 500 FT BEFORE RECOVERY WAS MADE. ATC INQUIRED ABOUT HDG AND TURN WAS INITIATED. NO TFC WAS NOTED IN THE VICINITY AND ATC NEVER INDICATED ANY CONFLICT WITH OTHER ACFT. ACFT HAND FLOWN/TRIMMED FOR DURATION OF FLT. MAINT ADDRESSED PROB IN SLC UPON ARR.
