Narrative:
Inspection panel came loose in air and bent backwards. When we returned after hearing strange noises and found the panel, we had a mechanic look into it. He removed the panel, bent it back the way it should be and replaced the screws. We did not get a signoff from the mechanic before departing, because the maintenance records are electronic on file at the school. Also at no time did we fly with an open discrepancy.
