Narrative:
10 mi prior to hpw VOR, center gave us holding instructions at hpw VOR. They stated to hold (south of) hpw VOR as published, efc time of XA40Z. Not having a chart readily available to see what 'as published' was, we entered the hold into our FMS. Our FMS created a hold at hpw with r-hand turns. With only 10 NM, traveling at 300 KIAS we were not able to find the appropriate chart and published hold prior to entering it. As we entered the hold, we stated that our flight was entering the hold and we were making right turns. We were immediately corrected by center. The published hold states left turns. We told the center we did not have time to locate the published hold. We turned immediately to the left and corrected our mistake. We do not believe we were ever outside the protected holding airspace because the error was corrected immediately. This all could have been avoided by informing us inbound radials/direction of turns initially or giving us more than 10 NM of notice prior to holding.

Title: CL65 FLT CREW IS CORRECTED BY THE ZDC RADAR CTLR WHEN ENTERING THE HOLDING PATTERN IN THE WRONG DIRECTION OVER THE VORTAC AT HPW.
Narrative: 10 MI PRIOR TO HPW VOR, CTR GAVE US HOLDING INSTRUCTIONS AT HPW VOR. THEY STATED TO HOLD (S OF) HPW VOR AS PUBLISHED, EFC TIME OF XA40Z. AS WE ENTERED THE HOLD, WE STATED THAT OUR FLT WAS ENTERING THE HOLD AND WE WERE MAKING R TURNS. WE WERE IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED BY CTR. THE PUBLISHED HOLD STATES L TURNS. WE TOLD THE CTR WE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO LOCATE THE PUBLISHED HOLD. WE TURNED IMMEDIATELY TO THE L AND CORRECTED OUR MISTAKE.
