Narrative:
I had just computed a 4 hour cross country, flight and had just landed. I landed on runway 22 with the intention of turning off at taxiway C. However, tower instructed me to continue taxiing down runway 22 and turn off on runway 14R. I was fairly anxious to get out of the plane and the only part that really stuck in my head was the word 'right.' I looked at the runway marker sign ahead of me and saw 'runway 32R/14L,' and I just spaced out for a second and turned right there as I switched over to ground as tower had instructed. I was a little confused when I saw another plane sitting down at the end of the runway waiting to takeoff. Ground told me that I turned onto runway 14L instead of runway 14R and to just turn onto taxiway B to get to runway 14R. I did just that and waited for that plane to take off before tower cleared me back to the ramp. I perceive that this happened because I was tired and anxious for the flight to be over. Thankfully nothing more than my turning too soon happened and ground told me not to worry, that it wasn't a problem. Next time I will be sure to keep my wits about me until the engine is shut down.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PA28 PLT TAXIES ONTO OCCUPIED RWY BY MISTAKE THEN RECEIVES FURTHER CLRNC TO EXIT VIA A TXWY.
Narrative: I HAD JUST COMPUTED A 4 HR XCOUNTRY, FLT AND HAD JUST LANDED. I LANDED ON RWY 22 WITH THE INTENTION OF TURNING OFF AT TXWY C. HOWEVER, TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO CONTINUE TAXIING DOWN RWY 22 AND TURN OFF ON RWY 14R. I WAS FAIRLY ANXIOUS TO GET OUT OF THE PLANE AND THE ONLY PART THAT REALLY STUCK IN MY HEAD WAS THE WORD 'RIGHT.' I LOOKED AT THE RWY MARKER SIGN AHEAD OF ME AND SAW 'RWY 32R/14L,' AND I JUST SPACED OUT FOR A SECOND AND TURNED R THERE AS I SWITCHED OVER TO GND AS TWR HAD INSTRUCTED. I WAS A LITTLE CONFUSED WHEN I SAW ANOTHER PLANE SITTING DOWN AT THE END OF THE RWY WAITING TO TKOF. GND TOLD ME THAT I TURNED ONTO RWY 14L INSTEAD OF RWY 14R AND TO JUST TURN ONTO TXWY B TO GET TO RWY 14R. I DID JUST THAT AND WAITED FOR THAT PLANE TO TAKE OFF BEFORE TWR CLRED ME BACK TO THE RAMP. I PERCEIVE THAT THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE I WAS TIRED AND ANXIOUS FOR THE FLT TO BE OVER. THANKFULLY NOTHING MORE THAN MY TURNING TOO SOON HAPPENED AND GND TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY, THAT IT WASN'T A PROB. NEXT TIME I WILL BE SURE TO KEEP MY WITS ABOUT ME UNTIL THE ENG IS SHUT DOWN.
