Narrative:
Landed runway 12R sjc. During deceleration approaching 50 KTS and taxiway D, tower transmitted to exit taxiway C, cross runway 12L and contact ground. I did not see sign for taxiway D and assumed it was taxiway C. I noticed red lights, but did not associate the lighting as a closed taxiway. During the day I might have seen the temporary barrier more clearly. As we stopped, tower told us we were on closed taxiway D and coordination with their operations personnel who requested we be towed. Maintenance was called to inspect the gear. Gear was pinned and maintenance indicated aircraft was safe to tow. Once at the gate, I wrote up to maintenance to inspect the gear and maintenance indicated #4 tire would probably be replaced due to cut in center of tread.

AS WE STOPPED, TWR TOLD US WE WERE ON CLOSED TXWY D AND COORD WITH THEIR OPS PERSONNEL WHO REQUESTED WE BE TOWED. MAINT WAS CALLED TO INSPECT THE GEAR. GEAR WAS PINNED AND MAINT INDICATED ACFT WAS SAFE TO TOW. ONCE AT THE GATE, I WROTE UP TO MAINT TO INSPECT THE GEAR AND MAINT INDICATED #4 TIRE WOULD PROBABLY BE REPLACED DUE TO CUT IN CTR OF TREAD.
