Narrative:

Doing takeoffs and lndgs in pattern. On tight base, diamond STAR reported taking off, entering runway as I turned short final. I announced my missed approach on unicom and offset to the right as I commenced the miss. About midfield, I passed the departing aircraft, remaining above and to her right to keep her in view. When about 1/8 mi ahead, I saw her bank right, so I turned left in front of her to rejoin pattern as she departed area. I'm not aware of any written procedure for a miss in a crowded pattern, but this seemed the safest choice. In retrospect, I should have communicated my intentions more forcefully on unicom and used the words 'go around' versus 'missed approach.'

Title: A LIGHT ACFT INITIATED A TKOF AT A NON TWR ARPT AFTER ANOTHER ACFT HAD ANNOUNCED SHORT FINAL. THE SHORT FINAL ACFT EXECUTED A GAR.

Narrative: DOING TKOFS AND LNDGS IN PATTERN. ON TIGHT BASE, DIAMOND STAR RPTED TAKING OFF, ENTERING RWY AS I TURNED SHORT FINAL. I ANNOUNCED MY MISSED APCH ON UNICOM AND OFFSET TO THE R AS I COMMENCED THE MISS. ABOUT MIDFIELD, I PASSED THE DEPARTING ACFT, REMAINING ABOVE AND TO HER R TO KEEP HER IN VIEW. WHEN ABOUT 1/8 MI AHEAD, I SAW HER BANK R, SO I TURNED L IN FRONT OF HER TO REJOIN PATTERN AS SHE DEPARTED AREA. I'M NOT AWARE OF ANY WRITTEN PROC FOR A MISS IN A CROWDED PATTERN, BUT THIS SEEMED THE SAFEST CHOICE. IN RETROSPECT, I SHOULD HAVE COMMUNICATED MY INTENTIONS MORE FORCEFULLY ON UNICOM AND USED THE WORDS 'GO AROUND' VERSUS 'MISSED APCH.'
