Narrative:
I have flown in and out of mdt many times, but this was the first time since we changed over into the new passenger terminal and a new taxiway confign. We were given a clearance to taxi to runway 31. The distance from the new terminal to the end of runway 31 is now much shorter than from the old terminal. I was busy reading checklist. Runway 31 has a displaced threshold and with the old taxiway confign you had to back taxi to use the full length of runway 31. With the new taxiway confign, taxiway 'a' proceeds to the full length of runway 31. When we contacted harrisburg tower prior to turning the corner on taxiway 'a' the tower controller said we had passed the hold short line. The captain and I both thought the hold short line was further in front of us around the turn. Upon looking at the airport diagram, it shows a hot spot at the hold line that we passed. The tower controller informed us that there were no problems. There were no other aircraft in the area at the time. In my mind I just assumed there was a hold short line around the turn just prior to the runway like most airports. I know now with the new confign, I should have paid a lot more attention to the airport diagram and airport signage. Also, with the short taxi distance, we could have run the pretkof checklist while stopped so that both pilots could have full attention directed to the new taxi route.

Title: RWY INCURSION BY A DC9-30 FLT CREW WHEN THEY FAIL TO NOTE THE LOCATION OF THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 31 ON TXWY A'S HOT SPOT AREA AT MDT.
Narrative: I HAVE FLOWN IN AND OUT OF MDT MANY TIMES, BUT THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME SINCE WE CHANGED OVER INTO THE NEW PAX TERMINAL AND A NEW TXWY CONFIGN. WE WERE GIVEN A CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 31. THE DISTANCE FROM THE NEW TERMINAL TO THE END OF RWY 31 IS NOW MUCH SHORTER THAN FROM THE OLD TERMINAL. I WAS BUSY READING CHKLIST. RWY 31 HAS A DISPLACED THRESHOLD AND WITH THE OLD TXWY CONFIGN YOU HAD TO BACK TAXI TO USE THE FULL LENGTH OF RWY 31. WITH THE NEW TXWY CONFIGN, TXWY 'A' PROCEEDS TO THE FULL LENGTH OF RWY 31. WHEN WE CONTACTED HARRISBURG TWR PRIOR TO TURNING THE CORNER ON TXWY 'A' THE TWR CTLR SAID WE HAD PASSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE. THE CAPT AND I BOTH THOUGHT THE HOLD SHORT LINE WAS FURTHER IN FRONT OF US AROUND THE TURN. UPON LOOKING AT THE ARPT DIAGRAM, IT SHOWS A HOT SPOT AT THE HOLD LINE THAT WE PASSED. THE TWR CTLR INFORMED US THAT THERE WERE NO PROBS. THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT IN THE AREA AT THE TIME. IN MY MIND I JUST ASSUMED THERE WAS A HOLD SHORT LINE AROUND THE TURN JUST PRIOR TO THE RWY LIKE MOST ARPTS. I KNOW NOW WITH THE NEW CONFIGN, I SHOULD HAVE PAID A LOT MORE ATTN TO THE ARPT DIAGRAM AND ARPT SIGNAGE. ALSO, WITH THE SHORT TAXI DISTANCE, WE COULD HAVE RUN THE PRETKOF CHKLIST WHILE STOPPED SO THAT BOTH PLTS COULD HAVE FULL ATTN DIRECTED TO THE NEW TAXI RTE.
