Narrative:
After taking the runway 17R in denver, I noticed the captain's pitot heat inoperative light on. We returned to the gate and subsequently replaced the captain's pitot tube with one that was in storage with denver maintenance. As they were completing the job, I did a second walkaround in preparation for departure. Walkaround complete, I took my seat and began to read the checklist. At this point, maintenance entered the cockpit and told us they had to do one last check. Less than 5 mins later they handed us the logbook and we pushed back. At tug disconnect ground personnel brought to our attention that maintenance had left black tape on our static ports. The push crew pulled off the tape and we departed. In retrospect, we should have immediately gone back to the gate and done another preflight walkaround. Due to the pressures of the mounting delays we had already incurred we did not.

IN RETROSPECT, WE SHOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY GONE BACK TO THE GATE AND DONE ANOTHER PREFLT WALKAROUND. DUE TO THE PRESSURES OF THE MOUNTING DELAYS WE HAD ALREADY INCURRED WE DID NOT.
