Narrative:

I was acting south sic and communicating with ground control. We were instructed to taxi up the east parallel and hold short, which we did. Next we were told we were #2 for takeoff behind gulfstream holding opposite us on west side of runway. Meanwhile, our company hawker (aircraft Y) which I had been flying for the last month (axgrp) taxied behind the gulfstream. The gulfstream took off, and company hawker held opposite us. Next, I thought ATC cleared us (abgrp) into position and hold and I acknowledged. We taxied into position, but when the tower cleared other hawker for takeoff, we realized the problem. We told the tower which aircraft we were and were instructed to taxi off the runway. In retrospect, because the other hawker was also eastbound, I believe the controller meant to clear us, but said 'axgrp' and I misheard and expected him to say us, 'abgrp.'

Title: RWY INCURSION WHEN ONE FO OF A PAIR OF H25'S HOLDING OFF N-S RWYS ACCEPTS A POS AND HOLD FOR THE OTHER AT VNY.

Narrative: I WAS ACTING S SIC AND COMMUNICATING WITH GND CTL. WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAXI UP THE E PARALLEL AND HOLD SHORT, WHICH WE DID. NEXT WE WERE TOLD WE WERE #2 FOR TKOF BEHIND GULFSTREAM HOLDING OPPOSITE US ON W SIDE OF RWY. MEANWHILE, OUR COMPANY HAWKER (ACFT Y) WHICH I HAD BEEN FLYING FOR THE LAST MONTH (AXGRP) TAXIED BEHIND THE GULFSTREAM. THE GULFSTREAM TOOK OFF, AND COMPANY HAWKER HELD OPPOSITE US. NEXT, I THOUGHT ATC CLRED US (ABGRP) INTO POS AND HOLD AND I ACKNOWLEDGED. WE TAXIED INTO POS, BUT WHEN THE TWR CLRED OTHER HAWKER FOR TKOF, WE REALIZED THE PROB. WE TOLD THE TWR WHICH ACFT WE WERE AND WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAXI OFF THE RWY. IN RETROSPECT, BECAUSE THE OTHER HAWKER WAS ALSO EBOUND, I BELIEVE THE CTLR MEANT TO CLR US, BUT SAID 'AXGRP' AND I MISHEARD AND EXPECTED HIM TO SAY US, 'ABGRP.'
