Narrative:
On approach into niagara falls, we were cleared direct to the airport and down to 3000 ft by buffalo approach. Reaching 3000 ft, we had the airport in sight and were cleared for the visual to runway 10L. At that point we were handed over to niagara tower and cleared to land. A moment later, tower informed us that we 'just blew through the restr area.' I was aware of some restr airspace in the area, but I thought that being on an IFR flight plan that ATC would keep me clear. Apparently, this is not true when on a visual approach.

Title: B727 CREW WHILE MAKING A VISUAL APCH INTO IAG APPARENTLY ENTERED RESTR AREA R-518 DURING THE LINE-UP PHASE TO RWY 10L.
Narrative: ON APCH INTO NIAGARA FALLS, WE WERE CLRED DIRECT TO THE ARPT AND DOWN TO 3000 FT BY BUFFALO APCH. REACHING 3000 FT, WE HAD THE ARPT IN SIGHT AND WERE CLRED FOR THE VISUAL TO RWY 10L. AT THAT POINT WE WERE HANDED OVER TO NIAGARA TWR AND CLRED TO LAND. A MOMENT LATER, TWR INFORMED US THAT WE 'JUST BLEW THROUGH THE RESTR AREA.' I WAS AWARE OF SOME RESTR AIRSPACE IN THE AREA, BUT I THOUGHT THAT BEING ON AN IFR FLT PLAN THAT ATC WOULD KEEP ME CLR. APPARENTLY, THIS IS NOT TRUE WHEN ON A VISUAL APCH.
