Narrative:
I was given a call to meet aircraft about 'B' system autoplt on deferral -- #2 FCC was removed from another aircraft and installed in aircraft in #2 position and problem followed to aircraft. Maintenance control requested removal and replacement of #2 FCC. Replaced #2 FCC per maintenance manual. On installation, the quick test failed due to interface problem. Called maintenance control, passed information on to them, and signed off removal and replacement on FCC in log page of deferred maintenance item with aircraft remaining on MEL for 'B' autoplt inoperative. Mistaken in thinking that system already downgraded due to MEL. Did not re-certify to CAT IIIA.
