Narrative:
On downwind to runway 09R I was cleared from 10000 ft to 7000 ft. I found myself thinking of air carrier financial; my lost retirement; pay cuts; and what a beautiful day it was. So; with the autoplt and autothrottles on; and the airport in clear sight; I never selected a speed of 250 KTS on the descent. My automated airbus 320 flew at 300 KTS just as I asked it to. In 42 yrs of flying; I can't remember not slowing down at 10000 ft before. Supplemental information from acn 647296: VHF #1 radio was intermittent. As first officer; I was sending report on ACARS. ATC gave us a descent out of 10000 ft to 7000 ft. First officer acknowledged radio call and read back. Continued to enter report. Captain started descent. At 7500 ft; ATC asked if we could slow to 250 KIAS. We did slow from 310 KIAS to 250 KIAS. Rest of approach and landing uneventful.

WE DID SLOW FROM 310 KIAS TO 250 KIAS. REST OF APCH AND LNDG UNEVENTFUL.
