Narrative:
I was captain of air carrier XXX from mco to jfk. At about XA30; we were climbing out to FL230. At FL210; we were cleared to climb to FL270. At approximately FL230; we copied 'cleared to FL330' and were told this would be our final for a while. The first officer read back 'climb to FL330.' we were then sent to another jax sector; and checked in 'climbing through FL230 to FL330; ZJX rogered our check-in. As we climbed through approximately FL238 or so; ZJX said to stop our climb at FL240. I immediately reacted to comply and stopped the climb at approximately FL243-FL244; and returned to FL240. Shortly thereafter; ZJX gave a 'turn 20 degrees left' call. I complied. At this point; I was very concerned and questioned ZJX about our clearance. In a short while; ZJX cleared us direct to chs. I asked if everything was ok; and 'did I need to do anything?' ZJX said; no everything was fine; said 'have a good flight to jfk' and sent us to another sector. End of incident.

Narrative: I WAS CAPT OF ACR XXX FROM MCO TO JFK. AT ABOUT XA30; WE WERE CLBING OUT TO FL230. AT FL210; WE WERE CLRED TO CLB TO FL270. AT APPROX FL230; WE COPIED 'CLRED TO FL330' AND WERE TOLD THIS WOULD BE OUR FINAL FOR A WHILE. THE FO READ BACK 'CLB TO FL330.' WE WERE THEN SENT TO ANOTHER JAX SECTOR; AND CHKED IN 'CLBING THROUGH FL230 TO FL330; ZJX ROGERED OUR CHK-IN. AS WE CLBED THROUGH APPROX FL238 OR SO; ZJX SAID TO STOP OUR CLB AT FL240. I IMMEDIATELY REACTED TO COMPLY AND STOPPED THE CLB AT APPROX FL243-FL244; AND RETURNED TO FL240. SHORTLY THEREAFTER; ZJX GAVE A 'TURN 20 DEGS L' CALL. I COMPLIED. AT THIS POINT; I WAS VERY CONCERNED AND QUESTIONED ZJX ABOUT OUR CLRNC. IN A SHORT WHILE; ZJX CLRED US DIRECT TO CHS. I ASKED IF EVERYTHING WAS OK; AND 'DID I NEED TO DO ANYTHING?' ZJX SAID; NO EVERYTHING WAS FINE; SAID 'HAVE A GOOD FLT TO JFK' AND SENT US TO ANOTHER SECTOR. END OF INCIDENT.
