Narrative:

On taxi out at dfw we were given 'taxi runway 17R full length.' that sounds like a generic taxi clearance; which could be given at any airport. At dfw it is also a standard taxi route taxi clearance. We didn't follow proper route. I believe the name of the standard taxi route should be changed to ease confusion. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that numerous taxi rtes exist for access to the same runway. He suggests that a more deterministic breakdown of each route be designed. The designations could be alpha numeric; alphabetic only; or any combination; just not a broad 'taxi to xxr.'
